Cary citizens' central portal for all non-emergency services. (North Carolina)
Project Overview:
Cary 311 is a central online portal designed to streamline non-emergency service requests and information access for citizens of Cary, North Carolina. As the UI designer for this 2-month project, I played a key role in creating a user-friendly and intuitive platform.
My Role:
While my primary focus was UI design, I heavily incorporated UX principles to ensure a positive user experience. This included:
Key Design Components:
Main Pages: I designed the main web pages, including Service Requests, FAQs, and informative articles. These pages were crafted to be clear, concise, and easy to navigate.
Report an Issue Function: A crucial element of the project was designing the "Report an Issue" functionality for both the website and mobile app. This feature allows users to efficiently report various concerns around town, such as potholes, missed trash collection, or graffiti.
Iconography: I created the main icons used throughout the website and mobile app interface. These icons play a vital role in enhancing user experience by providing visual cues and facilitating quick information retrieval.
App Icon: I designed the app icon, which serves as the visual identity for the Cary 311 mobile application.
UX Considerations:
While focusing on UI design, I also incorporated key UX principles to ensure a positive user experience:
User-centered design: The interface was designed with the user in mind, prioritizing clarity, ease of use, and efficient task completion.
Information architecture: Clear and logical organization of information was implemented to allow users to find what they need quickly and effortlessly.
Accessibility: Accessibility best practices were considered to create an inclusive interface that caters to users with disabilities.
Impact:
The Cary 311 portal is expected to significantly improve citizen engagement with non-emergency services in Cary. By providing a user-friendly and accessible platform, the portal aims to:
Simplify the process of reporting issues and requesting services.
Increase citizen awareness of available non-emergency resources.
Enhance communication and transparency between citizens and the Town of Cary.
My Contribution:
Through the design of the UI and the integration of UX principles, I played a vital role in creating a user-friendly and visually appealing portal that empowers Cary residents to efficiently connect with their local government.
